A rear extension and a knocked-through kitchen
A single-storey rear extension with a five-metre steel, opening the back of a 1930s semi onto the garden.
The existing back wall came out on a goalpost frame, and a five-metre beam picked up the floor and the wall above on padstones each end. Building control watched the padstones go in and the temporary props come out.
Foundations were dug by hand along the boundary to keep the neighbour’s drains, and the cavity was kept clear so nothing bridges the damp course.
