Why we still lay our own brick
Most builders of our size subcontract almost everything and manage the gaps. We went the other way. Our bricklayers, carpenters and groundworkers are on the payroll, and most of them trained here.
It costs more to run a firm like that. What you get for it is a site manager who can pick up a trowel, a crew that has worked together for years, and nobody on your drive who has never met the person who priced the job.
The trades we do bring in are the certified ones: gas, electrics and the glaziers who fit the big panes. We have used the same three firms for over a decade.

Frank Kedgewick starts laying brick from a lock-up on Marl Lane.
- 1988
The first full extension, for a neighbour on Wetherby Road. It is still there.
- 1996
Frank takes on Dev Rowe as an apprentice. Kedgewick & Rowe Ltd follows in 2004.

Jo joins from a surveying firm and introduces the fixed, written quote.
- 2026
