About

A yard in Ashcombe,
since 1974.

Kedgewick & Rowe started as one bricklayer and a barrow and has stayed a building firm the whole way through — no sales team, no call centre, the people who quote the job are the people who build it.

We work in and around Ashcombe: extensions, structural openings, brick and stone, groundworks, and the repairs that keep older buildings standing. Half of what we do is new; the other half is putting right what cement and time did to walls that were built to move.

We are happy to be the whole job or one honest trade inside someone else’s. What we will not do is dress up a repair as a rebuild, or a rebuild as a repair.

The one thing we are known for is masonry that carries its own load — arches built over centring and left to stand on the keystone, not on a hidden steel. It is slower and it is worth it, and it is the first thing we would take you to go and look at.

Everything on this site is invented — the jobs, the people, the number — because it is a template. Swap it for the real thing before you put it up.

How a job goes

  1. 01

    We come and look

A free first visit. We measure, we listen, and we tell you if it is a bad idea before you pay for it.

  2. 02

    A written quote

A fixed price against a written scope, with the things that could change it named up front. No day-rate open ends unless you ask for them.

  3. 03

    One gang, one number

The same people from the first footing to the last coat, and one number to ring while they are there.

  4. 04

    Left standing

Building control where it is needed, a clean site, and work that carries its own load without anything propping it.
